HSI High Performance Squads

The Horse Sport Ireland Carriage Driving High Performance committee have announced the creation of two squads of drivers. Squad members will be supported in training and travel to selected events to gain appropriate experience and qualifications.

The Horse Pairs High Performance Squad will aim to  develop a team for the World Horse Pairs Championships in Conty France 2011.

To date two drivers have been appointed to this squad, Barry Capstick and Folke Rohrssen. Barry recently competed at Royal Windsor, finishing 2nd in a high class field which included the current world champion.

Folke is scheduled to complete at Hopetoun at the end of May.

The Pony Development Squad has been established with the aim of developing an Irish team for the World Pony Championships in 2013. No team will be sent to the 2011 championships.

To date four single pony drivers have been appointed to the squad, Amy Manogue, Kieran Callaghan, David Sheehan and Marting Spillane. Pony pair and team drivers will be added to the squad in the near future.

It is hoped that the pony squad will compete at a UK National event later in the year.
